The dean of the university of Ghana school of Engineering, Professor Elsie Kaufmann has launched her foundation to encourage practical STEM education the Ghana. The renowned National Maths and Science Quiz mistress launched this foundation at an event on the 27th of July ,2022.
In attendance was the deputy minister of education, Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo, The Registrar of the National Teaching Council Christian Addai-Poku as well the Inspector-General of Schools of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority, Haggar Hilda. These dignitaries were joined by other major dignitaries from institutions such as the West Africa Examination Council. In a short address by the deputy minister of education, mentioned that the ministry was in full support as the Minister of education is very interested in STEM education in the country.
The event was chaired by The General Manager of Citi FM, Bernard Avle who noted that Ghana was in a good position to receive STEM education as the National Maths and Science Quiz is widely popular in the country. He added that this is a good time in Ghana for such as an initiative. “Ghana Is in a good place when it comes to interest in learning so we have young people who are not only interested in learning but willing to apply.”
The launch also included a practical science lesson where guests were given kits to perform experiments. This was to demonstrate what was going to be done in schools by the newly-launched Elsie Effah Kaufmann foundation.
The new foundation head, Professor Elsie Kauffman finally called on the STEM based institutions such as Ghscientific to join forces with her to make the foundation a successful one.
