The Max Planck Schools

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts” – that is the underlying idea of the Max Planck Schools. The Max Planck Schools link
the dispersed excellence of German researchers in the fields of cognition, matter to life, and photonics while exploring new paths in
postgraduate education in Germany. A unique network of 50 outstanding scientists per school with strong connections to both academia and
industry forms the basis for a career-oriented PhD education.

The Max Planck Schools now invite highly talented Bachelor’s or Master’s graduates from all over the world to apply. Selected students
will become part of an exciting interdisciplinary research network and receive funding for up to five years, depending on the respective
curricula of the different schools:

— Max Planck School of Cognition:

focusing on areas related to cognition such as linguistics, artificial intelligence, neurobiology, cognitive neuroscience/neuroscience, mathematics, neurology, psychiatry, philosophy, and psychology.

— Max Planck School Matter to Life:

focusing on areas related to chemistry, biochemistry, material sciences, molecular systems engineering, physics, molecular cell biology, bioengineering or a related subject.

— Max Planck School of Photonics:

focusing on areas related to physics, engineering or any other area with a significant exposure to photonic-related topics.
