The Ghana Association of Science Teachers has awarded 9 Gallant Science teachers and Members in the Association for their meritorious work done over a decade.

Speaking at the award ceremony held at the Ghana Institute of Engineers in Accra, the President for the Ghana Association of Science Teachers (GASTMA) Reverend Thomas Kofi Arboh stated that method use in teaching science and mathematics in schools are not encouraging at all and therefore propose project base approach.

This he said, the main purpose for the association this year is to use project base approach in teaching science subject.
These approach include learning models and material to assist teaching in various schools which allows the student at the end of lesson will get practical things from the courses studied.

According to him, the process at which teachers and children learn does not make them think properly, as a matter of fact careful study must be than so that both teachers and student can be become critical thinkers at the end of the lesson.
“It important for a teacher or scholar to identify a problem and find long lasting solution to such problem, in doing these makes you a real scholar and an achiever in a country.”

Reverend Arboh, urged all science teachers and lectures to come together and develop something beneficial for future generation. This is because there are a lot of things science teachers and student can do during and after schooling.

“ I must confess that the study of science is not a difficult thing as some people assume and think of , it is like any other subject and therefore encourage the youth to pursue with full determination and perseverance ,‘he added.

The award winners include, Professor Jophus Anamoah Mensah who received the highest GAST award with a plaque, Professor Christian Anthony Kruegar, Mr. J.W. Essiah, Ms. Mary Gyan, Professor Allotey, Mr. Kossi Ameyibor, Professor Ossei Anto.

He said GAST continue to contribute to the development of the subject for national growth and development.

He also commends Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh Minister of Education and his deputies for the swift manner they reacted positively to the suggestions presented towards the development of science education in schools.
