Volunteering for the Maths Camp is an exciting and challenging experience. Volunteers are crucial to the Maths Camp and they have a wide variety of duties and responsibilities from planning and running activities, to ensuring all the details are in place for the students to enjoy and learn as much as possible.
We hope volunteers also gain from the Maths Camp through the unique experience of running a camp and the opportunity to learn from and interact with other volunteers from a variety of disciplines, both international and local. We welcome applications from university students/teachers/PhD students/mathematicians/scientists and maths enthusiasts! A strong mathematics or teaching background is not required to be a volunteer, as long as you are passionate about helping students experience the practical, fun and interesting side of mathematics.
Volunteers are exempted from paying the registration fee and will be provided accommodation for both weeks, although they are expected to cover their own transport to and from the camp. During the two weeks, any transport needed will be arranged. Meals will be provided during the camp week. During the preparation week, volunteers may be responsible for some of their own expenses, depending on the funding situation of the camp.
The Maths Camp has almost zero external funding and therefore the costs of each participant’s attendance (accommodation/meals/materials) need to be provided for. Some students and teachers can cover this fee themselves, but others struggle to raise this small amount and so we rely on generous donations to ensure that all students can attend the camp, regardless of background or circumstances.
We invite schools, organisations and individuals to sponsor students and teachers to attend the camp. All sponsorship money will used to ensure that students who cannot afford to pay the full camp fee can participant.
